Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of Springfield City Councilor Melvin Edwards.

Melvin was first elected to the Springfield City Council on November 3, 2009, after having served as a civic leader and activist in the city for many years. Melvin’s campaign slogan was “Putting Springfield First,” a theme he vowed to uphold by representing all of the people of this beautiful and historic city.

In January of 2012 Melvin’s service to the community was rewarded again as he was sworn into his second term as Ward 3 Springfield City Councilor. In the two years between elections, Melvin took part in a number of important votes aimed at guiding Springfield to a brighter future. In June of 2011, when a devastating tornado swept through the heart of the city – including Melvin’s own neighborhood – the city councilor spent the morning after walking the ruined streets, talking with and comforting residents.

On this site, you will find the City Council subcomittees Melvin currently serves on, his associations and memberships, and his stands on the issues that affect our city. You can also click onĀ  the “About” page to find out more about the man himself, from his early years growing up in Springfield to his later years of marriage, bringing up his children, and civic involvement.
